Nicole Barnett, DMD
I grew up in rural Chatsworth, Georgia with two amazing parents and lots of animals running around. I loved going to the dentist as a child – everyone was so welcoming and kind to me, and I actually decided I wanted to become a dentist when I was eight years old! I graduated from Dalton High School then went to Auburn University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. While there, I was a member of the Auburn University Gymnastics Team, specializing in floor exercise and balance beam. As a gymnast, I was named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year and NCAA Academic All-American and earned the Wentworth Award for the gymnast best representing the values of the Auburn Creed.
After college, I attended dental school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, where I was the recipient of the Hinman Dental Society Scholarship and Judson C. Hickey Memorial Scholarship. From there, I went on to complete additional training in a General Practice Residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. During my residency, I did rotations in oral and maxillofacial surgery, forensic dentistry, family medicine, anesthesiology, and emergency medicine. I gained experience handling dental emergencies while being on call at the ER, managed complex dental treatments coordinated with multiple dental and medical specialists, and routinely treated patients in the OR under general anesthesia. After completing my residency, I moved to Atlanta and have been practicing as a general dentist now for nearly a decade. I love helping people learn more about their oral health and taking the time to get to know my patients and how I can help them achieve their dental and health goals.
This year, I got engaged to my fiancé, Evan, who is also a dentist, and we plan to get married within the next year. Between the two of us, we have taken in two stray animals that we love dearly: my dog Foxy and Evan’s cat Linus. I love food and a good cup of coffee and enjoy trying as many new and unique restaurants as I can. I also enjoy exploring Atlanta on my bicycle and am a health and fitness enthusiast, with yoga, barre, and dance being some of my favorite activities. I love reading and exploring new places, cultures, and ideas.
